Why this load exists

A familiar brand name or a defensive label does not settle the practical question. The cartridge still has to feed from the magazines you use, chamber correctly, cycle reliably and print where the sights indicate. Sierra describes the V-Crown as a jacketed hollow-point bullet for personal-defense use. That is the component maker’s design intent, not a promise that every short barrel, distance or impact condition will produce the same result.
