Description
Why the 110 Ultralite Exists
In the field, weight is not an abstract number.
It’s measured in fatigue, stability, and decision-making.
The Savage 110 Ultralite was designed to remove unnecessary mass without abandoning predictability. By pairing a factory-blueprinted Model 110 action with a PROOF Research carbon-fiber–wrapped stainless barrel, Savage created a rifle that stays light while maintaining thermal stability and structural integrity.
This is not about extreme distance.
It is about reliable first shots after long movement.
Carbon Fiber, Applied for Field Use
The PROOF Research barrel is the defining feature of the Ultralite. Carbon fiber wrapping allows the barrel to remain stiff while reducing weight and managing heat more evenly than thin steel sporter profiles.
In practical terms:
-
The barrel warms predictably
-
Cold-bore deviation is minimized
-
Weight stays low without sacrificing consistency
This matters most when:
-
shooting from improvised positions
-
firing only one or two critical shots
-
carrying the rifle for hours before firing
The 22″ Barrel & the Creedmoor Window
At 22″, the Ultralite sits comfortably inside the Creedmoor’s optimal velocity window without pushing pressure or recoil. This length preserves expansion-capable velocities for ethical hunting distances while maintaining balance and maneuverability in tight terrain.
Velocity is adequate.
Consistency is the priority.
Fit Over Mass
The AccuFit system allows hunters to adjust length-of-pull and comb height so the rifle mounts naturally—critical for cold, rushed, or awkward shots.
Unlike heavier precision rifles that rely on mass to settle, the Ultralite relies on fit and discipline. When fit is correct, recoil remains manageable and sight picture recovery is faster than expected for its weight class.
Trigger & Action Behavior
Savage’s user-adjustable AccuTrigger provides a clean, predictable break without requiring aftermarket modification. The factory-blueprinted action and spiral-fluted bolt ensure smooth operation in cold, dust, and elevation—conditions where hunting rifles actually live.
This is a system built to work when conditions are not controlled.
What the Ultralite Will—and Will Not—Do
The Savage 110 Ultralite will:
-
reward careful shot placement
-
preserve energy for the hike out
-
remain predictable on cold-bore shots
-
reduce fatigue over long days
It will not:
-
damp recoil like a heavy chassis rifle
-
tolerate sloppy fundamentals
-
hide wind misreads at extended range
This rifle assumes the shooter knows when to stop.
