Description

Reloading .454 Casull cartridges requires dies that keep sizing, case-mouth expansion, seating and roll crimp connected to the cartridge, revolver and chosen bullet. The press supplies the force; the die set performs the cartridge-specific operations.

We selected the RCBS 23212 carbide three-die roll-crimp set for the die station in our .454 Casull Loading Room. It provides separate tools for sizing, expanding and seating/roll crimping rather than treating the cartridge as an interchangeable .45-caliber case.

What problem does this die set solve?

A press by itself cannot establish .454 Casull case dimensions, prepare the case mouth for the selected bullet or control seating and roll crimp. This set supplies the cartridge-specific tooling for those operations and keeps die setup tied to the actual brass, bullet, firearm and current loading reference.

What each die does

• Carbide sizing die: resizes the case and removes the spent primer. The carbide sizing ring eliminates the routine need for case lubrication during sizing.
• Expander die: expands the case to accept the bullet and applies the mouth flare needed for controlled bullet entry.
• Roll-crimp seating die: seats the bullet and applies a roll crimp when the bullet design, case preparation and governing loading procedure call for it.
