When a general-purpose .308 rifle bullet does not fit the .30-30 job

Most .308 bullets serve pointed-bullet rifle cartridges. The .30-30 handloader has a different mechanical problem: choosing suitable nose geometry for a tubular-magazine lever rifle while deciding whether the load calls for the lighter 150-grain class or the traditional 170-grain class.

We supply 50 bullets. We hand swage these bullets in small batches, made to order and normally ship within seven business days.

Why choose the 150-grain Rhino

The Rhino combines an exposed-lead flat nose, copper jacket, lead core and cannelure. At 150 grains, it is the lighter Rhino choice beside the 170-grain version. Its geometry is intended for compatible tubular-magazine applications, but construction alone does not guarantee feeding, accuracy, penetration or a field result; the complete cartridge, firearm, velocity and impact conditions determine performance.

Choose weight and construction deliberately

Choose the 150-grain Rhino when the project calls for the lighter flat-nose option. Compare the 170-grain Rhino when greater bullet mass is the priority, or the same-weight Razorback when serrated flat-nose construction better matches the intended load.

Build around the rifle and published data

Use current published jacketed-bullet data for .30-30 Winchester and the exact bullet weight. Confirm diameter, seating depth, cartridge overall length, crimp, chamber fit, magazine compatibility, feeding and point of impact in the rifle that will be used.

Published reference data: Use only data applicable to the exact cartridge, bullet, firearm, components, and source conditions. Generic bullet-class data and named-bullet data are labeled separately. Verify every recipe against the cited publication before use.
