Build the 6.8 Western project around the right 175-grain bullet

The 6.8 Western shooter considering a 175-grain bullet is usually trying to build a heavy-for-caliber load with a specific aerodynamic form. The first problem is identification: weight alone does not tell the shooter the nose construction or base geometry that must fit the rifle and load plan.

This Scorpion combines a long-range ultra-low-drag hollow/open tip with a rebated boat tail. Scorpion is Gold Country’s hollow/open-tip family. ULD means Ultra Low Drag. The rebated boat tail distinguishes this bullet from the 175-grain Scorpion LD flat-base option.

This listing contains 50 bullets. Cases, primers, powder and loaded ammunition are not included. We hand swage these bullets in small batches. They are made to order and normally ship within seven business days.

What this bullet helps you accomplish

It gives the 6.8 Western handloader a defined heavy-for-caliber bullet around which to begin the real work: checking length and fit, establishing a safe loading path, and measuring the finished system in the actual rifle. The page is organized for the shooter pursuing a 175-grain 6.8 Western load with Scorpion open-tip construction and ULD rebated-boat-tail geometry.

Why this page exists beside the other 175-grain choices

Choose Scorpion when the project calls for Gold Country’s hollow/open tip. Choose Viper when it calls for an exposed lead-tip soft point, or Razorback when it calls for the serrated-tip design. This page then narrows the Scorpion decision to the ULD rebated boat tail and presents it through the 6.8 Western use case.

Prove the complete system

ULD and base-form terms describe design intent. They do not establish a universal ballistic coefficient or guarantee accuracy, stability, retained velocity or terminal results. Confirm bullet length, seating depth, cartridge overall length, chamber and magazine fit, and barrel-twist suitability for your rifle. Begin with current published jacketed-bullet data for the 6.8 Western and this weight, work carefully, and evaluate the finished load in the actual rifle.

Reloading safety: Verify every recipe against the cited published source and its current edition. Begin only with the source’s stated starting load and confirm the exact cartridge, bullet, powder, primer, case, overall length, firearm, and pressure limits. A similar bullet weight or diameter does not establish interchangeability.
