Is this the hunting load or the match load?

This is the target and match side of the comparison: Federal Gold Medal 6.5 Creedmoor ammunition loaded with a 140-grain Berger Hybrid Target bullet. Federal catalogs it in the Gold Medal Berger family and identifies it as target-rifle ammunition.

If your job is paper, steel, match-oriented practice or evaluating how a rifle responds to a different factory match configuration, this is the relevant candidate. It should not be presented as a hunting load merely because its bullet weight is close to a 143-grain hunting load.

What “control load” means here

We use “control load” as buyer guidance, not as a guarantee. It is a known factory match configuration that can give a shooter a useful reference when comparing ammunition in one rifle. Your rifle may prefer it, another match load or neither. Group size, velocity consistency and point of impact must be measured in the actual firearm.

Choose this load when

You want factory-loaded 6.5 Creedmoor target ammunition using the Berger Hybrid Target bullet.
You are comparing match loads by observed rifle performance rather than brand reputation alone.
You want a distinct target-load counterpart to a purpose-built 143-grain hunting load.

Do not choose by grain weight alone

The three-grain difference does not define the job. Bullet design and product intent do. Read 6.5 Creedmoor 143-Grain Hunting Load vs. 140-Grain Match Load, then continue into the 6.5 Creedmoor Cartridge Master Compendium for the broader cartridge and factory-load context.

Safety and verification

Use only in a firearm marked for 6.5 Creedmoor and in safe operating condition.
Follow the firearm and ammunition manufacturers’ instructions and warnings.
Confirm reliable function, zero and point of impact in the rifle that will be used.
Do not treat published velocity or ballistic coefficients as measured results from your rifle.
