A heavy .450 Bushmaster hunting load built around the 300-grain Speer DeepCurl

This Gold Country .450 Bushmaster load uses Speer’s 300-grain, .452-diameter DeepCurl Hollow Point with cannelure. It is a heavy-for-cartridge option for hunters who value bullet mass, bonded construction and a deliberate hunting profile over the lightest possible projectile.

Published velocity

1,700 fps based on published load data. This is a load-data reference, not a velocity measured from a Gold Country test firearm. Actual velocity varies with barrel length, chamber, firearm, components, atmospheric conditions and production lot.

Why this bullet was selected

Speer describes the DeepCurl construction as an electrochemically bonded jacket-and-core system. The 300-grain .452 projectile is cataloged as a DeepCurl Hollow Point with cannelure. Gold Country uses that heavy bonded projectile to give .450 Bushmaster hunters an alternative to the lighter bullet weights that dominate much of the factory-ammunition market.

The bullet’s construction and weight place this load in a penetration-oriented hunting lane. Actual expansion, retained weight and penetration remain dependent on impact velocity, target medium and shot conditions; this page does not substitute a catalog description for product-specific terminal testing.

Firearm fit and operating scope

Use only in firearms marked for .450 Bushmaster. Confirm feeding, chambering, magazine function and point of impact in the specific rifle that will be used. The 2.065-inch cartridge length is the specification for this load; the SAAMI dimensional range describes the cartridge standard, not a direction to alter loaded ammunition.

Source scope: Bullet designation and construction are based on Speer’s published catalog. Cartridge dimensional limits are taken from the current SAAMI centerfire-rifle standard. The 1,700-fps figure is based on published load data and is not represented as a GCA chronograph result.

Availability: This ammunition is made to order in small batches and normally ships within seven business days.
