Choose the open-tip 130-grain path before developing the load

A lighter 7mm project may begin with velocity, recoil or rifle preference, but those goals do not identify the bullet. The handloader still has to choose the nose construction and base geometry that will anchor the work.

This Scorpion combines a long-range low-drag hollow/open tip with a flat base. Scorpion is Gold Country’s hollow/open-tip family. That construction separates it from the exposed lead-tip Vipers, while the flat base gives the loader a clearly identified geometry for seating and rifle-specific testing.

This listing contains 50 bullets. Cases, primers, powder and loaded ammunition are not included. We hand swage these bullets in small batches. They are made to order and normally ship within seven business days.

What this bullet helps you accomplish

It gives you a defined starting point for a lighter 130-grain .284 load project: Scorpion open-tip construction, LR/LD form and a flat base. You can establish seating, fit and safe loading parameters around the actual bullet, then determine through testing whether the completed system serves the accuracy, trajectory and field goals that brought you to this weight.

Why this page exists beside the two Vipers

Choose Scorpion when the project calls for Gold Country’s hollow/open tip. Choose Viper when it calls for an exposed lead-tip soft point. The two 130-grain Vipers then divide into LD flat-base and ULD rebated-boat-tail geometry. Those are physical choices, not duplicate listings.

Confirm fit and prove the load

Open-tip, LR/LD and base-form terms identify construction and design intent. They do not establish a universal ballistic coefficient or guarantee accuracy, stability, expansion or penetration. Confirm bullet length, seating depth, cartridge overall length, chamber and magazine fit, and barrel-twist suitability. Begin with current published jacketed-bullet data for the exact cartridge and weight, work carefully, and evaluate the finished load in the actual rifle.
