When the goal includes both precision and the condition of the pelt

Predator and varmint hunters do not all want the same terminal behavior. A soft point may be preferred when faster, greater expansion is the goal. A hollow point may be chosen by shooters who also value precision and want a less expansion-forward option when pelts may be kept or sold.

Why choose the 55-grain Coyote

The Coyote combines a copper-alloy jacket, lead core and hollow-point nose in the familiar 55-grain .224 class. It is the lighter hollow-point choice beside the heavier 69-grain Scorpion and the 70-grain Viper soft point. Hollow-point construction does not guarantee a small exit, preserved pelt, accuracy, expansion or a particular field result; velocity, impact placement, animal size, target medium, twist rate and the complete load all matter.

Choose construction before making the claim

Compare the 70-grain Viper when a soft point and more expansion-forward design intent better match the job. Compare the 69-grain Scorpion when a heavier hollow-point precision bullet better fits the rifle and intended range.

Build around the cartridge, rifle and published data

Use current published jacketed-bullet data for the exact cartridge and bullet weight. Confirm diameter, seating depth, cartridge overall length, magazine fit, chamber fit and twist-rate suitability. Verify accuracy and field behavior in the complete load and rifle.

Reloading safety: Verify every recipe against the cited published source and its current edition. Begin only with the source’s stated starting load and confirm the exact cartridge, bullet, powder, primer, case, overall length, firearm, and pressure limits. A similar bullet weight or diameter does not establish interchangeability.
