Start the 165-grain project with the right physical bullet

A 165-grain .277 load can demand substantial work in seating, stability and rifle-specific testing. The first decision should therefore be the exact construction you intend to develop, not a generic promise attached to grain weight.

This Scorpion combines a long-range ultra-low-drag hollow/open tip with a rebated boat tail. Scorpions use Gold Country’s hollow/open-tip construction. That identity separates it from the lead-tip Viper, while the base form separates it from the other 165-grain Scorpion.

This listing contains 50 bullets. Cases, primers, powder and loaded ammunition are not included. We hand swage these bullets in small batches. They are made to order and normally ship within seven business days.

What this bullet helps you accomplish

It gives you a defined bullet with which to explore a heavy-for-caliber 6.8 Western load with an open-tip Scorpion and ULD rebated-boat-tail geometry. You can establish fit and safe loading parameters around the actual nose and base geometry, then measure whether the completed system serves the trajectory, wind and field goals that brought you to the 165-grain class.

Choose it when the ULD nose and rebated boat tail belong in the 6.8 Western development plan. Confirm bullet length, seating depth and stability in the actual rifle rather than relying on an estimated BC or universal twist claim.

Why this page exists beside the other 165-grain choices

The buyer’s real decision is construction plus geometry: Scorpion open tip or Viper soft point, then LD flat base or ULD rebated boat tail. We make those choices explicit so you do not spend powder, primers and range time developing the wrong bullet.

Prove the complete system

LD, ULD and base-form terms describe design intent. They do not establish a universal ballistic coefficient or guarantee accuracy, stability, retained velocity, expansion or penetration. Confirm bullet length, seating depth, cartridge overall length, chamber and magazine fit, and barrel-twist suitability. Begin with current published jacketed-bullet data for the exact cartridge and weight, work carefully, and evaluate the finished load in the actual rifle.
