A 120-grain bullet gives the 7-30 Waters a different balance than a 139-grain bullet. The lighter projectile can support quicker handling and lower recoil, but the actual experience depends on the complete load, rifle weight, stock fit and shooter.
The 120-grain class is also a traditional all-around choice for the cartridge. It should not be described only as a reduced-recoil option.

Why the bullet profile matters
Many 120-grain .284 bullets are spitzers intended for other 7mm cartridges. The 120-grain Gold Country Rhino uses the flat-nose geometry appropriate to its intended 7-30 Waters lever-rifle role.
Use current published jacketed-bullet data from a recognized source. Confirm cartridge length, feeding, velocity and point of impact in the rifle that will actually be used.
