Description
At a certain point, ranging distance stops being about the shot —
and starts being about where you are, where you’re going, and what the terrain allows.
The Leupold RX-5000 TBR/W sits at the top of Leupold’s handheld rangefinder line for a reason. Its 5,000-yard ranging capability isn’t designed for trigger pulls at extreme distance — it’s built for terrain comprehension, navigation, and ballistic decision-making in open country.
Using Leupold’s DNA laser engine, the RX-5000 can range trees and deer-sized targets at distances far beyond conventional hunting needs. What elevates it beyond other rangefinders is how that information is used. Through integration with the Leupold Control App, the unit allows users to drop location pins directly onto digital maps (including platforms like onX), tying real-world ranging data to spatial awareness and movement planning.
Ballistically, the RX-5000 retains True Ballistic Range / Wind (TBR/W) functionality, converting line-of-sight distance into corrected shooting solutions based on angle, gravity, and projectile behavior. Rifle shooters receive corrected distances and wind-aware outputs, while archers benefit from Bow Mode with Archer’s Advantage, extending reliable angle-corrected solutions well beyond traditional tree-stand distances.
Long Range (LONG) Mode shifts the tool’s role entirely — prioritizing maximum ranging performance for reconnaissance, ridge-to-ridge navigation, and approach planning rather than shot execution. Combined with a bright red OLED display, selectable reticles, and weather-sealed housing, the RX-5000 becomes less of a shooting accessory and more of a field intelligence instrument.
This is not the rangefinder you pull out only before the shot.
It’s the one you consult before you ever choose a position.
Technical Scope
This rangefinder is optimized for long-range terrain assessment, navigation, and advanced ballistic decision-making in open environments. Its primary value lies in converting distance, angle, and position into actionable planning data — supporting rifle and archery use where movement, elevation, and wind exposure materially affect outcomes before a shot is taken.
