The .45 Colt has lived a long life because one cartridge can serve very different revolvers and very different purposes. That versatility also creates the buying problem: a shelf full of grain weights and bullet names does not tell you which construction you are actually choosing.
This Gold Country load follows the conventional 250-grain jacketed hollow-point path. It uses Hornady’s XTP bullet for the shooter who prefers an exposed-cavity hunting or defensive bullet rather than one of GCA’s heavy jacketed flat-nose field loads.

Why choose the XTP version?
The XTP provides a familiar commercial hollow-point construction for shooters who want that design in a traditional 250-grain .45 Colt load. GCA’s neighboring Rhino and Razorback offerings answer different construction questions: flat-nose geometry, heavier field use, or a different balance between deformation intent and continued penetration.
Those are deliberate choices, not interchangeable names. Select by firearm, pressure class and intended use rather than grain weight alone.
Velocity basis and firearm fit
The approximately 802 fps figure comes from published load data; it is not presented as a Gold Country chronograph result. Actual velocity and point of impact vary with firearm, barrel length, ammunition lot and conditions.
Use only in a firearm marked for .45 Colt ammunition. This is the standard-pressure product path, not the separately identified .45 Colt +P offering. Confirm chambering, firearm condition and suitability before use.
